National Landing is the name used for the combined area of Crystal City, Pentagon City, and Potomac Yard along Arlington's southeastern edge. It has changed a lot since Amazon chose it for its second headquarters (HQ2) in 2018.

Where things stand with Amazon HQ2

  • Phase one is open: Amazon's Metropolitan Park campus in Pentagon City opened in 2023, with two office towers and a public park.
  • Phase two is paused: Amazon has not started construction on its second phase, PenPlace, which included the planned Helix building. Arlington has extended the site plan approval, but there is no construction timeline.
  • What this means: HQ2 brought a lot of investment to the area, but the slower pace of phase two is a reminder not to buy based on announced projects alone.

Transit is the main advantage

  • Metro: The Pentagon City and Crystal City stations are on the Blue and Yellow Lines. A new east entrance at Crystal City station, closer to the VRE station and Crystal Drive, is scheduled to open in spring 2027.
  • VRE and bus: The Crystal City VRE station offers commuter rail service, and the Metroway bus rapid transit line runs toward Alexandria.
  • Airport: Reagan National Airport is one Metro stop or a short drive from Crystal City.
  • The Pentagon: Many residents walk or take one Metro stop. See the Arlington commuter guide.

What you can buy here

  • High-rise condos: Most homes for sale are condos, from older 1970s and 1980s buildings to newer luxury towers. Older buildings often offer larger units at lower prices per square foot, but check the condo fee and the building's planned capital projects.
  • Townhomes and nearby single-family homes: Neighborhoods such as Aurora Highlands and Arlington Ridge, next to Pentagon City and Crystal City, have townhomes and detached houses close to the amenities.

Lifestyle

Pentagon City has a major mall and street-level retail, and Crystal City has added restaurants, a weekly farmers market, and public spaces in recent years. Long Bridge Park has athletic fields, an aquatics and fitness center, and views of the DC skyline. See Arlington's parks and trails.
