Home > Annandale > Cross County Trail Access

Fairfax County's Cross County Trail (CCT) runs about 40 miles across the county, from the Occoquan River in the south to the Potomac River in the north, mostly through protected stream valleys. One of its most popular stretches runs along Annandale's west side, through the Accotink stream valley.

For buyers who run, ride, or walk the dog every day, living near this trail is a real lifestyle advantage, and it can matter when you sell.

Where Annandale connects to the CCT

  • Wakefield Park: At Braddock Road and the Beltway, Wakefield Park is a major trail hub, with the Audrey Moore RECenter, athletic fields, and well-known mountain bike trails.
  • Accotink Stream Valley Trail: From Wakefield Park, the trail follows Accotink Creek south toward Lake Accotink Park, where there's a loop around the lake.
  • Neighborhood connectors: Several neighborhoods off Braddock Road and Little River Turnpike have short paths that lead into the stream valley, so some residents can reach the trail on foot.

What the trail is like

The CCT is a mix of paved sections, gravel, and natural surface. Some stretches include stream crossings that can be wet or impassable after heavy rain. It suits walkers, runners, and mountain or gravel bikes better than road bikes. Because it runs through wooded valleys, much of it feels far removed from the roads around it.

What trail access means for a home

  • Daily convenience: Walking to the trail instead of driving to it is a real selling point, especially for remote workers and dog owners.
  • Buyer appeal: Listings that can honestly say "walk to the Cross County Trail" stand out to active buyers.
  • Trade-offs: Homes right next to a trailhead can see more foot traffic and parking, and lots near stream valleys need a careful drainage check. See homes backing to parks for what to inspect.
